Herbert Roberts (1865-1950) was born in Maine on 21 January 1865. He attended schools of his native town (Brooksville) and then graduated from the East Maine Conference Seminary (Bucksport, ME) in 1888. He entered Boston University in the fall of 1888 and graduated with a BS degree in 1892. Roberts joined the NU faculty in 1892 as professor of Latin and English and the next year was appointed professor of Latin and French.
